Interlinking Fire Alarms
As of February 2022, all homes in Scotland must be fitted with interlinked fire alarms.
Interlinked means if one goes off, they all go off, so you will always hear an alarm wherever you are in your home.
The new law was created as a result of the tragic Grenfell fire in London in 2017, and it applies to all Scottish homes.
It means that your home must have:
- one heat alarm in the kitchen
- one smoke alarm in the living room or the room you use most
- one smoke alarm in the living room or the room you use most
All smoke and heat alarms should be mounted on the ceiling and be interlinked. We can supply and fit you with interlinked fire alarms that meet the Scottish Regulations.
Benefits of interlinked fire alarms
Having interlinked fire alarms offers several benefits:
01.
Simultaneous Alerts: The immediate, house-wide alert can wake up and inform all residents, regardless of where the fire starts, significantly increasing the chances of a safe evacuation.
02.
Enhanced Safety Coverage: Ensures comprehensive coverage across all rooms and floors. Provides you with a higher level of safety compared to standalone alarms, as it reduces the risk of a fire going undetected in less frequently occupied areas such as basements, attics, or garages.
03.
Improved Response Time: The rapid alert allows for quicker evacuation and emergency response, potentially saving lives and reducing property damage.
04.
Convenient Testing and Maintenance: Many interlinked fire alarm systems can be tested and maintained through a single point of control, simplifying the process of ensuring that all alarms are functioning correctly.
05.
Increased Reliability: Built-in redundancies, meaning if one alarm’s power supply fails, the others will continue to function.
The Technical Details
Our interlinking wireless fire alarms have a sealed lithium battery that lasts for up to 10 years so no battery replacement is required in that time. It offers an alarm volume of up to 110 decibels.
Interlinking fire alarms work by connecting multiple alarms together, so that when one alarm detects smoke or fire, all alarms in the system are triggered simultaneously. This feature is especially valuable in larger buildings or multi-story homes, as it ensures that even if a fire starts in a remote area, people in other parts of the building will be alerted immediately.
Our interlinked alarms are wireless and use radio frequency communication to transmit the signal between units, while wired systems use dedicated interconnection cables.
